If Elected

I intend to better educate and implement new strategy on the importance of family violence. This includes offering a list to victims of family violence of known shelters and counselors trained in this field. Many times local churches and religious organizations offer their help should it be accepted by the victims. A well trained deputy or officer will know what to do and will make a difference. We all must continually educate ourselves on family violence.

I intend to have all patrol deputies trained in standardized field sobriety and intoxilizer operation so they can file D.W.I, or D.U.I, charges without depending on other police agencies. Too many drunk drivers are killing our loved ones.

I will address and assign more deputies to stop the sale and distribution of dangerous narcotics and contraband throughout the county. I intend to put more deputies on the streets by freeing up the jails. Too many certified deputies are guarding already captured criminals. One idea may be to hire Texas Department of Correction employees on a part-time basis to meet the State mandated inmate to guard ratio by cross training these men and women who already have been trained by the State on detention. This could save the taxpayer money and help the employee earn extra income for their families.

I will bring the Sheriff’s department back to the people by returning your phone calls. The people will have access to my office without going through obstacles such as metal detectors. My office door will always be open to the public and employees. I will consider implementing a resident deputy program as done in years past. There is nothing better than a deputy who has strong ties to his or her respective community. This resident deputy will do a better job taking care of their respective areas if they know their neighbors. This deputy will have a vested interest in protecting his or her community.

Not one single employee will lose their career because of their politics.
